Meditation: The Foundation of Spirituality

I know many people have talked about and used meditation for many years, decades, centuries...and it has been the focal point of many tribes and cultures throughout history. Meditation is one of those things that have been a pivotal ability in order to gain much more of ourselves. I'm going to share with you all some experiences of my meditations, and even some personal insight as to why meditation has been important for me over the last few years.

I found out recently that I am from at least three different Native American tribes. I am part Cherokee, Shawnee, and Chickasaw, and I can prove this because of my great-grandmother. She was born in Kentucky, September 5th, 1908. I don't know what her Native American name was, but she denounced her heritage because of the government. I'm not sure about the details, but all I know is that because of her, I'm from all three of those tribes, at least. I was never directly told any of this by her, but my mother has researched our heritage pretty far back.

Because of the amount of things I don't know about Native American culture, I can't directly say what it all means to me. However, I am pretty sure it has helped create a solid path into my own spiritual journey, despite it not being the foundation. Throughout my life, I was always curious about things seen as taboo by Christian standards, so naturally I tried checking into them once I was finally able. the results have definitely opened my eyes to new perceptions and interpretations, especially with the thoughts on meditation.

In the Bible, Jesus himself used mediation as a way to clear his mind, and to communicate with God. Even my church encouraged meditation (Disciples of Christ) so for anyone of the Christian faith to say meditation is wrong is questioning a lot of things founded within the Bible itself. Besides that, meditation has helped people with an array of things. However, the biggest thing meditation helps with is to connect with the Earth in a very intimate and amazing way. Things meditation has done to help the ones that practice it are:

  • Connecting with the Earth and becoming one with it
  • Connecting with others on a special connection
  • Healing yourself mentally, spiritually, and emotionally
  • Understanding thoughts on a higher level than if you were consciously thinking, but without being asleep (and thus out of complete control of your thoughts)
  • Increased perception even after you awake from meditation for a time
  • Decreased heart rate and breathing (which leads to a state of relaxation)
  • Increased energy
  • Increased metabolism, but a decrease in hunger depending on how you approach meditation
  • Increased awareness of the Earth after you're done meditating
  • Increased awareness in others you talk to
  • Increased happiness within and outside of yourself
  • Decreased stress and anger
  • Decreased fear and anxiety
  • Decreased emotional unbalance
And the list goes on and on. For full understanding of meditation it would be best to do your own research, since I'd rather not be the only source of information on this subject. However, I do know many positives about meditation, and not really any negatives at all.

Now, for those wondering, meditation was how I first started my own spiritual journey. I was attempting to see if there was a possibility I could be otherkin. I'm not going to explain that currently, as that would detract from the actual topic at hand, and I'd have to go on about specifics, so I'll just continue.

To contemplate that very question, I had to ask quite a few of my friends what their opinion was on the subject. Not too many were that spiritual, so I just decided to see what their thoughts were on the subject. A few thought I was crazy, some didn't really understand that well, and a few thought it was certainly possible. So, after I gathered opinions (of course I did research before that), I meditated. The first time, I was standing in a dark space. I looked down at my hand, and saw it was covered in blue scales. When I woke up, I didn't know if it was just my own thoughts or if it truly was within me. So, I meditated again, and this time it was much more clear. I was looking into a mirror, except I wasn't seeing my human body.

I may go into specifics at a later point in time, but right now I just wanted to share a little bit of what I've used meditation for. Pretty much, meditation confirmed my thoughts on the question of otherkin. I've meditated for reasons I placed above as well, and have been meditating on and off since August 30th, 2008. It's always been fun for me, and it definitely puts me in a state of peace! I may meditate right now, simply because it's just that nice for me!

With love and kindness,
