So, this is my second move from one site to another, and if you've stuck around ever since I was on Wordpress, you're probably wondering, "Why move again?" Well, it's very simple, and very complex. But I'll try to give you some decent answers and reasons. Also, if you're curious, check it out over here: http://decipheringtruth.wikia.com/wiki/Deciphering_Truth_Wiki
- A wiki makes more sense than just a blog. I could keep going with just a blog, and adding a few pages here and there, but I need much more flexibility than a blog can offer alone. Don't get me wrong, blogs are amazing (my wiki even includes one), but I do have a lot of content that is simply static, and wikis are much more easy to navigate.
- Easy to import photos, videos, and any external data. With a blog (particularly this one), I have to create a blog post just to show images. Normally this isn't that big of a deal, but if I want to show special pictures, like my face, in more than just the About page, I want to be able to put it wherever I want. Not just on a blog post, and not just on one page. Sure, there are widgets I can use to make it work, but again, I'd much rather not have to even worry so much about that.
- I don't have to be the only one editing. This is a big one for me, since I'm going to be traveling. Because I will have so many other things I'm planning on doing, I know I won't have time to post every single thing. So, I could make a mention of a few things I'm doing, and tell some people they can add it into the wiki, and it will be there when I can fully elaborate on it. Try that with a blog!
- Wikis track every change, including your own changes. For bloggers, that isn't much of a concern unless someone deletes all of your data. On a wiki, that is significant simply because if anyone can change anything, that leaves your information susceptible. However, I can also limit who has write permissions on whatever I have on there. But it also shows me who edited something last. So, if I see something undesirable, I can not only edit it, but inform the person that edited it before that what they put on wasn't correct.
- Discuss changes! I can connect with readers in a whole new way besides just comments. We can actually actively discuss certain thoughts, ideas, and whatnot. This opens a whole new medium of communication that is more versatile than commenting, but can be seen at anytime unlike an instant messenger.
